Early & Personal Life
Akash Deep was born on 15 December 1996 in Dehri, Sasaram, Bihar, and grew up in Kolkata, West Bengal. He started playing cricket at the age of 12, as he used to play cricket at his locality during his childhood. He belonged to a poor region and did not have any serious aspirations of becoming a cricketer, particularly a pacer.

He was inspired to become a cricketer at his young age when he watched the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa. For getting trained and better opportunities in cricket, he moved to West Bengal in 2010 and started training at a cricket academy.
He struggles a lot during his career as Akash Deep faces opposition from his parents and neighbours in Bihar due to his strong passion for cricket, which they saw as a distraction from academics.
During a period when the Bihar Cricket Association was under suspension, spring cricketers in the state lacked a proper platform to develop their careers, and Akash was among those affected. In Sasaram, he stood out as the only one deeply committed to cricket, prompting some parents to discourage their children from associating with him.

Meanwhile, some of those parents were cautious that their children would follow in the footsteps of Akash Deep by abandoning academics.
His father opposed him and advised him to prepare for exams leading to a secure government job, and also advised him to sit in the Bihar Police constable exam, or at least apply for a state government Class IV peon post.
However, Akash was determined to continue pursuing his cricket career. However, his journey became more difficult when his father and elder brother passed away within six months. Reportedly, his father is suffering from paralysis, for which he came back home and went to Durgapur, West Bengal, for his father’s treatment.

He played a few games, which sparked his interest again. After his father’s and brother’s deaths, he became the immediate breadwinner in his family.
While growing up, earlier he used to play as a batsman, but after he visited Kolkata in 2012, he worked on his bowling skills and became a pacer with decent speed by 2015.

In 2015, Akash Deep suffered personal setbacks with the deaths of his father and brother, and he moved to Delhi in 2016, where he stayed with his elder sister.
After all, one of his friends invited him to Kolkata later, which changed the path of his life. He started playing cricket and later played for the United Club and the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club. Though Akash Deep regularly played for clubs, he did not see his career progressing to a bigger level.

A chance meeting with the Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami, changed him as Shami told him to focus on his mindset and physical conditioning for the international stage.
He struggled financially as he shared a 12X12 room with four people when he was playing club cricket. Saurashish Lahiri trained Akash Deep when he was a member of the Bengal Under-23 team.

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly played a huge role in Akash Deep’s career as his program Vision2020 in 2014, shortlisted Akash Deep from the pool of age cricketers and provided him with the necessary training to become a good fast bowler. Indian pacer Mukesh Kumar was also shortlisted in the same program and later formed a lethal bowling pair with Akash.
