Early Life

Mukesh Kumar

Mukesh Kumar was born on 12 October 1993 and hails from Kakarkund in Gopalganj district, Bihar. Kumar’s Father wanted him to join the army, but he could not clear the exam even after three attempts.

In 2012, his father then asked him to go to Bengal where he was working as a taxi driver and find a job to earn money to support his family. In an interview, his coach in his village said that he was passionate about cricket, but he wanted to join the army.

He struggled a lot in his cricket career because he belonged to a financially weak family who could hardly manage their feeding. His father was always against his cricket passion because he wanted Mukesh to become an Army Soldier.

At his growing interest in cricket, he gave a trial at “Pratibha ki Khoj” which was organized in the Gopalganj district, Bihar where he bagged 34 wickets in seven games. He earlier represented Bihar U-19 in the Associate & Affiliate Tournament hosted by BCCI.

According to his coach, he used to cycle 30 km every day to the academy to play cricket. He used to play tennis ball matches in his village. But when he came to Kolkata, he was offered to join Bani Niketan a second-division CAB league club to play tennis ball cricket.

Mukesh Kumar is from Goplaganj district, Bihar(India). His father Kashi Nath Singh is a taxi driver and his mother Malti Devi is a housemaker. Mukesh father died in 2019 due to a brain hemorrhage. Mukesh has four sisters and one younger brother Dhanset.

Mukesh Kumar received his early education from VMS High School, Gopalganj, Bihar. Later, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Kamla Rai College, Gopalganj. Although he had no interest in studies, his passion lay more in playing cricket.

A pre-trial was staged specifically to identify some of the players before Waqar Younis arrived in Kolkata.

He made his first-class debut on 30th October in 2015-16 Ranji Trophy. In the 2021-22 Ranji Trophy he bagged 20 wickets in 9 innings.

He played Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2015 and made his T-20 debut on 6 January 2016 in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

He got his maiden call-up for the Indian cricket team in September 2022 for the ODI series against South Africa. In December 2022, he was picked in the Indian cricket team for their Twenty20 International (T20I) series against Sri Lanka.
