Deepak Chahar Biography

Deepak Chahar (born 7 August 1992) is an Indian international cricketer. He is a right-arm medium-pace swing bowler, who plays for Rajasthan in domestic cricket and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

In 2019, he became the first Indian male cricketer to take a hat-trick in a Twenty20 International (T20I) match. In January 2020, Chahar received the T20I Performance of the Year award by the International Cricket Council (ICC), for his outstanding performance claiming six wickets for seven runs against Bangladesh.

Deepak Chahar Early Life

Deepak Chahar was very fond of cricket since his childhood and started playing cricket at a very young age. His father had quit his job in the Air Force to make him a cricketer. At the age of 10, his father brought him to Zila Cricket Academy in Jaipur and introduced him to coach Navendu Tyagi.

Every day his father would take Deepak to teach cricket at Hanumangarh Cricket Academy, 50 kilometers away from Suratgarh, where coach Navendu Tyagi taught him the wisdom of cricket.

His father continuously used to work on his son’s bowling and fitness from 4:30 am to 10 pm. When Deepak Chahar was 16, Greg Chappell, the director of the Rajasthan Cricket Association Academy at that time rejected him in 2008.

Despite this, Chahar persisted in approaching various other academies. Eventually, in 2010, he was added to the team of Rajasthan Ranji team during the 2010–11 Ranji season.

In February 2010, Deepak Chahar made his List A debut in a Central Zone match against Vidarbha in the Vijay Hazare Trophy where he took 2 wickets for 61 runs in his first match.

After a few months, he made his T20 debut on 25 October 2010 against Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Though he could not do anything good in that match.

Deepak Chahar made his first-class debut for Rajasthan in the 2010–11 Ranji Trophy. On 1 November 2010, in his debut match against Hyderabad Chahar took 8 wickets for just 10 runs and gave the lowest score in the history of the Hyderabad Ranji Trophy, including 21 runs.
