Harshit Rana is an Indian cricketer who was born on 22 December 2001. He plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League and domestic cricket for Delhi. He was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders in February 2022 in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Auction. He made his T20 debut on 28th April 2022 for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 IPL. Harshit Rana Cricket Career
Harshit Rana was born on 22 December 2001 in Ghevra, New Delhi, India. He is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He plays domestic cricket for the Delhi team and the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL.
At the age of 20, on the advice of Nitish Rana who hails from Delhi, Kolkata Knight Riders brought him on board as a replacement for the injured Rasikh Salam in the 2022 IPL. And then, he was also retained by KKR in the next two seasons.
Later that year, Rana made his first-class and List-A debut as well. He showcases his ability to adapt with the red ball with 21 wickets in five first-class Ranji Trophy games that season.
Despite injuries, Rana had a good start in the 2022 Ranji Trophy with 28 wickets in seven matches. Rana showed great skills in white-ball matches, especially in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
He played 14 matches for Delhi where he took 22 wickets, in T20 matches he took 28 wickets in 22 games.
By June 2023, he had been selected for the Duleep Trophy where he demonstrated his batting prowess by scoring an unbeaten 122 of 86 balls from the No. 9th position studded nine sixes for the North Zone.
Harshit was also part of the ACC Emerging Men’s Cup where he opened the bowling and took seven wickets in five games. It became evident that he was nearing an India call-up when he toured South Africa with the India A team for a series in 2023-24, with the A team mirroring the senior squad.
His impressive 2023 culminated in winning an IPL Trophy in 2024, he was the joint-second-highest wicket-taker for KKR and ranked fourth overall in the tournament, securing 19 wickets across the three phases of innings.
Additionally, he maintained an enviable economy rate of 9.85 in the death overs during an exceptionally high-scoring tournament.
He thanked his dad, coach Amit Bhandari, and Gautam Gambhir for supporting him greatly during their time together at KKR. Rana credits Gambhir for changing his mindset and providing crucial support.
With his exceptional skills and performances in the some previous months, he was selected for the ODI series for the Sri Lanka tour of India in July 2024.
