Early Life

Jeffrey Vandersay is a right-arm leg-break bowler who was born in Wattala, a large suburb of Colombo city. He began bowling spin before he even understood the definition of leg-spin. Alongside his leg-spin delivery, he has subtle variations such as top-spinner, googly and slider.
Despite having these variations, he remains grounded and focuses on spinning the ball as much as possible. He made a sensational entrance by taking 8 wickets in a three-day game against Pakistan, leading to his international debut.
In 2015, he was added to the T20 Squad for the home series against Pakistan. Some Sri Lankan cricket purists believed he should have been tested in the longer format. However, nerves affected Vandersay and he struggled to make an impact in his limited opportunities.
He was also economical against England and South Africa. Despite his efforts, the 2014 World T20 Champions did not reach the semi-finals. In his first 11 ODIs, he did not play a single home game, which meant his deliveries lacked the advantages of home pitches.
