Jitesh was born on 22 October 1993 in Amravati, Maharashtra, India. He used to play football in his childhood. He was not so good in academics in his school days. During school days, Jitesh Sharma used to play football and cricket with plastic balls.
The School Board of Maharashtra government gives four percent marks in 10th and 12th board exams to the players playing for the state. This was the reason why Jitesh remained associated with sports and made a place in his school’s cricket team. There was a vacancy for a wicketkeeper in the team, so he started wicketkeeping.
After performing well in school cricket, he was selected for the state team. Jitesh’s dream was to serve the country by joining the Indian Army, but on the advice of his coach, he made a career in cricket. He performed well as an opening batsman and started playing in the main team of Vidarbha.

Jitesh Sharma’s Domestic Cricket Career
In the 2012-13 Cooh Bihar Trophy he performed very well in the tournament, due to which he got a place in the senior Vidarbha team. In the 2012-2013 Cooch Bihar Trophy Jitesh played 12 innings where he scored 537 runs with the help of 2 centuries and 1 half-century.
On 27 February 2014 Jitesh made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Rajasthan in the Jaipur 2013-14 Vijay Hazare Trophy. But he did not get any chance to bat in that match.
On 31st March 2014 he made his T-20 debut against Uttar Pradesh in Nagpur. In his first T20 match, he scored 57 runs with 6 fours and 3 sixes.
After this, on 1 October 2015, he made his first-class cricket debut against Odisha cricket team in the 2015 Ranji Trophy. In his first List A match he scored 49 runs.
He earned a lot of names Vidarbha team as a lower-order finisher in limited overs. For this, he was bought by Mumbai Indians in the 2016 IPL season but he did not get any chance to play any match.
After which he failed to progress in domestic cricket and was moving towards oblivion. However, he made his comeback in the 2021-22 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He smashed 19 sixes in the tournament and made his mark as a finisher.
Jitesh made 632 runs in First-class cricket and 1350 runs in List-A cricket.
Jitesh Sharma’s IPL Career
Jitesh’s outstanding and remarkable performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for the Vidarbha team at the top order caught the eye of the selectors of the IPL Franchise Mumbai Indians in 2016, who bought him for Rs 10 Lakhs during the IPL Auction.
In 2017, he was a part of Mumbai Indians that won the Indian Premier League season 10. However, he did not play in any match for the team. Post the League he was released by Mumbai Indians.
After this, he was bought by Punjab Kings at a cost of a base price of 20 lakhs in the auction of the 2022 IPL season. Before this Mumbai Indians bought him for 10 lakh in IPL 2016 season.
On 3rd April 2022, he made his first IPL debut against Chennai Super Kings where he played 17 balls and scored 26 runs with 3 long sixes.
In his first season of IPL, he played 12 matches, with an average of 29.25 he scored 234 runs with 12 sixes and 22 boundaries at a strike rate of 163.64.
He was retained by Punjab Kings in the 2023 IPL season where he scored a total of 309 runs in 14 matches for Punjab Kings at an average of 23.77 and a strike rate of 156.06. During this period, 22 fours and 21 sixes came from his bat.
Jitesh Sharma International Cricket Career
On January 2023, he was added to the squad of the Indian cricket team for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. But he did not get any chance to play a single match in the series.
In October 2023, he was selected in the Indian T20I team for the Asian Games 2023. He made his T20 International debut against Nepal on 3 October 2023. However, he could not do anything special in that match and was out after scoring only 5 runs.
After this, he was added to the squad for the T20 series against Australia. In the first three matches, he did not add to playing but in the fourth T20, he was added to the playing eleven where he scored 35 runs in 19 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 1 boundary.
Whereas in the fifth T20 match, he played an inning of 24 runs. Later, Jitesh Sharma was included in the Indian team for the South Africa tour.
