The report states that the reason behind the growth is new media rights and sponsorship deals. The media rights deal for the 2023-2027 cycle is worth ₹48,390 crores.

According to Mumbai media reports the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has earned an additional income of ₹5,120 crore from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. As per reports, this marks a 116% increase in the additional income of ₹2,367 crore earned by BCCI from IPL 2022.

The report highlights that BCCI’s total income from IPL 2023 was ₹11,769 crore, showing 78% year-on-year growth. According to BCCI’s annual report for 2022-23, expenses also increased by 66% to ₹6,648 crore.

What is claimed in the Report?

The report states that new media rights and sponsorship deals were the driving factors behind the increase. The new media rights for the 2023-27 cycle are worth ₹48,390 crores, starting from IPL 2023. The IPL TV rights were acquired by Disney Star in 2021 for ₹23,575 crore (for 2023-2027).

While Jio Cinema secured the digital rights for ₹23,758 crore. The IPL rights were sold to TATA Sons for ₹25,00 crore.
